Gilders Paste Tips:

  1. Substrate surface should be dry and clean, free of dirt, oil, grease and scale.

  2. Gilders paste can be directly applied with your finger, sponge, paint-tooth stencil brushes, cloth, rubber stamps and more.

  3. All colors can be thinned out to further extend, wash, stain paint your project.

  4. Blending gilders past is as easy as mixing two or more colors to match and touch up existing color schemes or to create a custom color.

  5. Drying time varies depending on materials, thickness of application and substrate, approximately 30 to 60 minutes to the touch on dry, low porosity, debris free surfaces.

  6. Lightly buffing metallic colors, after 12 hours of drying, will produce a gilded finish.

  7. Will accept an over coat, such as, clear lacquer, varnish, urethane, powder coating to achieve that uniform appearance where the Gilders Paste was not used or to provide further durability to areas where repeated handling is required.

  8. For very smooth surfaces, such as, gloss paint, plastic, ceramics and furniture, it is recommended to lightly abrade the surface with 0000 grade steel wool or fine sandpaper or apply a recommended primer.

  9. Layering substrates with a solid base color and then stenciling, sponging or wiping another color over base coat can produce unique affects and blends.

  10. Rubbing base coat immediately after application with a dry cloth or slightly wet with thinner will remove Gilders Paste from the relief detail and highlight depressed details. LIghtly brushing Gilders Paste over the top will highlight the relief details.

  11. Store above 55 F. Apply above 60 F.

  12. If you left the top off and the paste becomes dry, add a lttle paint thinner or mineral spirits, mix, and you are ready to paint! This exercise will give a long shelf life.

  13. Gilders Paste is ideal for use on Gourds. It is recommended to etch the skin of the gourd with a solvent like paint thinner, acetone or lightly sand the shell with fine dry/wet sandpaper or steel wool. If surface is to smooth or dirth the paste will not attach to the gourd and flaking will occur.

  14. Gilders paste can be used on rattan as well as wood. It is recommended to use a top coat over applications that will have alot of use.

  15. Gilders paste can be used for exterior applications. It is recommended using an ultra violet clear coat recommended by your paint store.

  16. Gilders Paste will cover approximately 25 square feet per ounce.
