Wood Glossary

Alder

Has gained popularity in the last few years as the "poor man's" cherry. Although often seen in rustic "knotty" form, our carvings are clear and contain no knots. Often stained to look like cherry.

Aspen

A very fine grained, light colored hardwood that lends itself to painting or glazing.

Cherry

One of the classic cabinet and furniture woods. Known for its prominent grain pattern and red color. Often clear finished or stained to deep and rich red tones.

Oak

One of the classic American cabinet woods. A bold distinctive grain pattern lends it to clear or stained finishes. (Legacy Series)

Maple

A fine grained wood. It is often selected for painting, or stained to bring out the subtle grain patterns.
