How to use Van Dyke's Restorers online store.

There is a lot of flexibility in shipping and payment. There are four (4) basic steps:

Browsing and searching for Products
Adding items to your shopping cart
Logging in or creating an account
Checkout and payment

browse and search for products

Van Dyke's Restorers products are broken into basic categories, like "Restoration Hardware" and "Lamps". When you click on a top-level category (the green bar at the top) a second list of categories within the section is displayed. As you click on these links and delve deeper into each category a thread is created at the top of the page following your navigation. For example:
Home > Restoration Hardware > Pie Safe > Tins  
You can click on these links to go back back up levels in each category. This is also helpful if you find an item by searching - you can identify which category it belongs to and explore similar items. The easiest way though to find a product on Van Dyke's is to search:

Use the search at the top of each page by entering keywords. E.g "brass hinges". When searching you do not need to use the "and" for more than one word. The search results will be listed by relevance to your query - e.g. products with both the words "brass" and "hinges" in any of their name or description will be listed first. Then any items with either brass or hinge will be listed. Click on a product name and you will proceed to a detailed product page.

If you have our printed catalog you will note that every product has an Item Number. You can search using this item number and even use this number to "Quick Add" an item to your cart.

adding items to your shopping cart

Simply enter a quantity and click on the "Add to Cart" button. When you add an item to your cart, you will be taken to a screen that shows you the contents of your cart. You'll see the item you just selected.

You can double check the prices of all items or delete them from your cart. Once you have logged in, you can change quantities and determine which shipping address to use when sending each item.

Your abbreviated shopping cart (on the left of each page) lists the items you currently have added - you can remove these or update the quantity by clicking view all contents or anywhere where there is a shopping cart link. If you return to our site at a later date these items will be kept there. When you log out your cart will appear empty. You will need to log in to view your cart and edit your account details. If you close your browser or shut down your computer you are automatically logged out.

logon or register

At some point before completing your order, you will need to logon or register by clicking on the My Account/Create Account link at the top of page. If you have used this site before, you can enter your logon name (usually your e-mail address) and password. If you haven't been here before, you can enter your e-mail address and a password and the necessary address information. Everytime you visit the Van Dyke's Restorers website after creating your account, you can "place your orders" without re-entering your address.

checkout

After having logged in and placing items in your shopping cart, you can checkout by pressing the button labeled "Checkout" from the shopping cart page.

This will lead you to a screen that shows you what shipping address(es) will be used, type of payment, and related information. You may also cancel your order on this screen.

set up your address book

After logging on, you can optionally set up multiple shipping addresses. This can make it easy for you to buy gifts for several people at once or to purchase some items for work and others for at home and have everything shipped to the location where you want it. To do this, click the "Address Book" link, located at the top of the page. You can add new addresses by clicking on the Add button and following the directions. To update or delete existing addresses, just select the address from the list and click on the button that describes what you want to do.
