Very functional hasp for smaller projects. It's possible to punch out the hinge pin and reverse the mounting plate, but be careful and provide support for the barrel. I broke the first hinge I tried, but met with success on the second.
Perfect finish in the black. Beautiful product, fit well together. You do need to recesses the bottom loop into the material if you want it to lay flush, otherwise it will still latch fine. Will accommodate a .25" to .375" lock with no problem. Thanks!
I built three jewelry type boxes with these hasps. For the money these are great. A real good value. In Clayton's review he mentioned that the protruding nub prevented the hasp from lying flat. If you look at images of hasps this is a common decorative feature. While the website doesn't mention it, this hasp's intended use is surface mounted, with the screw hole on top of the lid. In this format the nub faces the user as expected. If you want to mortise the hasp into the bottom of the lid like I did, you need to reverse the pieces. This is easier than you might thing. The peened hinge pin easily comes out with a small punch. It's very soft metal. Reverse the latch, reinsert the pin and peen the end over a little with a ball peen hammer or whatever you have. It takes two minutes. I wish Van Dykes had matching hinges, especially surface mounted strap hinges. I always struggle finding matching hardware and I'd like to see more focus on sets or families. Again, for the money, these could be a staple
Perfect size for the treasure chest I created
Look nice and good finish. But the hinge does not lay flat and bound when installed. Had to put a relief in the wood before the hinge would operate smoothly. A little frustrating because I had to refinish that area. Fits the 2 7/8 inch Black Steel Padlock .
