Make Impressions and Molds with Silputty & Por-A-Kast

One of the more interesting and useful products we offer is Silputty. Silputty is used to make instant impressions with a two-part, silicone elastomer, which can be mixed by finger kneading to a putty-like consistency. This is useful for furniture restorers to cast missing trim and carvings that are impossible to replace.

Once this two-part product is mixed, material can be pressed into the desired shape or around the desired object. It will cure at room temperature into a firm elastomer within a few minutes with 99.95% dimensional accuracy. Silputty can be used to create candle and soap molds, to match antique moldings, trim, and frame repair. The needed part can be poured from Por-A-Kast or any casting material. This product has a six-month shelf life.
MOLD AND CAST
SILPUTTY
Mix Instructions: These products are mixed in the ratio of 1 part by weight of cross-linker to 1 part by weight of base—visual estimation of proportions is usually sufficient. Measure out the desired quantities of respective components and mix by hand until color is uniform. Be careful not to mix more than can be applied in 3 minutes. Immediately after mixing pour or press material into desired surface—taking care to avoid air entrapment. Cure time: 15 minutes. Temperature will affect the cure rate with warmer materials curing much more rapidly.
Por-A-Kast is a two-component system that is mixed at a one-to-one ratio by volume. It sets in 10 minutes, is usable in one hour, and cures in 36 hours. Then it is ready to sand, cut, drill, bond, or machine. It then can be stained, painted, or varnished. Por-A-Kast, along with the Silputty, can reproduce difficult-to-obtain or one-of-a-kind objects, such as, carvings, handles, etc. Filler may be add.
POR-A-KAST
SYNLUBE
Syn-Lube 531 is a non-silicone release agent scientifically formulated for use with Por-A-Kast but is also suitable for other polyurethanes, epoxies, polyester resins and silicone rubbers. It has a low viscosity, good wetting action and spreads uniformly and evenly when applied sparingly.
