Restorers Cannonball Gate Closure

I saw an old cannonball gate closer at a Long Island farm a year ago and made a mental note to research one for my house gate. Some time later, I ordered this item. It arrived with the cannonball mounted to a chain, and two hooks (machine thread, not tapered wood thread, strangely, with a single nut on each hook). No instructions included about how/where to install, but I found a set at hooverfence,com. The closer works, but not with sufficient force to work against a light opposing breeze. Also, I note on the styrofoam packing material, a sticker that warns about lead content (not surprising, I suppose, given the cannonball at the heard of the mechanism). All in all, I really like the clever little device, it’s what I was looking for, but time will tell if it will be perfect for my application, as we live in an occasionally breezy area.

This was exactly what I wanted!

I grew up going to Williamsburg, VA where all the gates have this type of closure. This is 100% like Colonial Williamsburg. As mentioned in another review, it does come with hardware. I have photos and video of anyone is interested.

This gives my picket fence a nice colonial feel and closes the gate well. Also comes with mounting hardware not mentioned in the description.
