Kent Design Decorative Wire Grille Cutting & Cleaning Instructions

Decorative Wire Grilles are NOT for outdoor use. The steel wire will rust in outdoor conditions.

Decorative Wire Grilles can be cut using tin snips, wire cutters, 14 gauge hand shears, and any metal cutting blade, depending on the gauge of the wire. Each design varies with wire gauge and crimp style.

We recommend that you make a template of the exact size you will be cutting for your application with some heavy cardboard or plywood. For smaller mesh openings (under 3/4"), we suggest planning on 1/2" spacing between any pieces you may be cutting out of standard sheet sizes. For larger mesh openings (over 3/4"), we suggest planning on 1" of space between each cut.

  • Wire corners may unravel during or after cutting, but pieces can be put back in during installation. The tension of the wires keeps the grille together.
  • Standard stock grilles are not welded.
  • Decorative wire grilles and chicken wire can be cleaned easily with a non-ammonia based cleaner.

    Pictures don’t do it justice

It’s so hard to tell from such a small image, but believe me, this product is stunning in person. I wish I could attach a picture of the finished product. We used it as a mesh screen for a built in dog cabinet in the mudroom with a marble top. Do not hesitate to purchase. Quality and appearance are great

Went around to many different sites to look for a wire mesh for the 6 large doors and only found a few that she liked. Biggest problem was the size of the panel. I needed 14" wide panels and most all brands came in 24" widths which meant I could only get one strip from each panel. This stuff isn't cheap. But Vandykes panels were 36" wide so I was able to get 2 strips 14" wide from them cutting my costs down. The other brands wire was a continuous wave while VD's was flat and more pleasing to look at. Problems with the mesh happen at the corners when you cut it. You need 3 wires to support the cross wire or it will just fall out. There is no welding or bonding at the intersection. It is a overlap crimp fit and it can pivot. You had to be very deliberate where you cut to make sure the corners all came out the same. The wire is steel with a brass plating. I wasn't able to cut it easily with tin snips so I had to use nippers. I had to cut each wire independently which made for a long operation of cutting when sizing the panels. The panels came about 1/2' oversized (36.5" x 48.5"). The edges of most of the panels had some sort of damage that mostly I was able to bend back. A couple were bad enough that I just cut around them because it didn't matter if I lost one row because I only needed two 14" strips out of a 36" panel. If your hole is 36" x 48" you may have difficulty in getting a "perfect" panel with zero defects (on the outer perimeter). 35" x 47" would work well so you could clip out damage if it existed. I ordered 6 panels and one was damaged during shipping. I contacted VD's and they sent out another panel after a few photos of the damage. Took about a week to get the replacement, very satisfied with their response.
