Description
Restorers Iron Ornate Trunk Hasp
Traditionally styled padlocks and hasps provide the finishing touch on primitive chests and trunks. Hand crafted, their well-aged appearance makes them ideally suited for replacement on antique originals or authentic re-creations! Mounting hardware included. Sm. Leaf 1 3/4' X 3 1/4"; Lg. Leaf 1 5/8" X 5 1/4"
- Oil Blackened is raw iron coated with oil. The oil will wear and expose the iron beneath, which will rust. Left as is, this finish will erode, or rub off. This can be prevented by sealing with furniture wax or a clear coat sealant.
- Rust is a raw iron that has been oxidized. This finish will continue to rust over time and will rub off. This finish can be preserved by sealing with furniture wax or a clear coat sealant.
- Black Powder Coat is a baked on finish that is virtually maintenance free. This finish is more shiny than Oil Blackened and is permanent.
- Weathered Bronze is made from solid cast bronze. Weathered bronze will continue to age and patina over time. No two pieces will ever look identical.

If I'm correct (and I think I am) the hasp is installed so that the 4 screws are covered by the lock. That said, the one I received will not allow the hinged cover to close over the lock loop. Will have to trim about an 1/8th of an inch to make the correct clearance. Other than some extra work, it's a beautiful reproduction hasp.
Used on cherry and cedar hope chest, along with a 4" heart (rust finish) to match. Applied paste wax the old fashioned way with rag to items to preserve color. It slightly darkens hardware upon application but then lightens up as it dries to give an awesome "old iron look"
I bought this hasp for a steemer chest I built and it looks great! I had to put a different hinge on it, so it would fit the chest better. For this, I used a gold door hinge.
