Harken back to the days of smoky speakeasies, prohibition and Al Capone with one of our handsome speakeasy grates. Complete with interior privacy door, these heavy duty units help assure your personal safety in classic style. Matching mounting hardware included.

  • Rust- Raw iron that has been oxidized. This finish will continue to rust over time and will rub off. This finish can be preserved by sealing with furniture wax or a clear coat sealant.
  • Black Powder Coat-A baked-on finish that is virtually maintenance free. This finish is shinier than Oil Blackened and is permanent.
  • Weather Bronze-Solid cast bronze. Bronze will continue to age and patina over time. No two pieces will ever look identical.
  • Interior door frame measures: 4" W x 5"; Door is 3" W x 4 1/8" H x 1 1/2" Projection with knob
  • Exterior plate measures: 5 3/4" W x 7" H x 3/4" Projection

A bit heavy

I like the finish a lot, but I find the weight of the items a bit heavy for my taste, though I can think of applications where that would be an advantage. Also, I wish very much that I could have bought just the door assembly by itself, as I didn't need the grille at all and won't be using it.

The height and width dimensions for the exterior "speakeasy" grate are long point to long point, so 5 5/8" W x 6 7/8" H make the grate sound 1 and 1/2 inches bigger in both dimensions than it really is. This thing is well made and a good value as long as you realize it is really small.

Perfect for Our Garden Gate

Last year we built a new gate to the back garden. I'm short so I could not see over it and felt uneasy about opening to strangers. The Speakeasy Grille and door is the perfect solution and the design harmonizes nicely with the gate hardware.
