Acorn Manufacturing Iron Hardware
An American Iron Story
Founded in 1937, Acorn Manufacturing Company represents one of the great American stories of craftsmanship, perseverance, and family tradition. What began in a Connecticut garage as a small line of builder’s hardware has grown into a respected manufacturer known for its high-quality cast and forged iron hardware—still made in the USA today.
Built on Tradition and Craftsmanship
After relocating to Mansfield, Massachusetts in 1948, Acorn transitioned from cast brass to the cast and forged iron hardware that defines the brand today. From its earliest days, Acorn focused on durability, authenticity, and traditional manufacturing methods—qualities that continue to set the company apart.
Often referred to as “The Cadillac of Colonial Hardware,” Acorn earned a reputation for exceptional quality and long-lasting performance, particularly in historically inspired and architectural hardware applications.
A Family-Owned Legacy Across Generations
Acorn Manufacturing is a third-generation, family-owned and operated business. Leadership passed from Percy Slayton to his son-in-law Robert DeLong, and later to Robert’s son Eric DeLong, each generation building upon the last while remaining committed to quality above all else.
Under family leadership, Acorn expanded its product offerings, workforce, and manufacturing capabilities—while staying rooted in the same Massachusetts community where it has operated for decades.
Expanding While Staying True to Core Values
As markets and styles evolved, Acorn adapted without compromising its standards. Strategic acquisitions, including Tremont Nail Company in 2006, allowed Acorn to preserve historic American manufacturing traditions. Today, Acorn is the only remaining full-line manufacturer of square-cut nails in the United States and Europe.
Additional expansions into complementary product lines further diversified the catalog while maintaining the same commitment to craftsmanship and domestic production.
Quality That Endures
Through economic challenges, changing consumer demands, and global competition, Acorn Manufacturing has remained steadfast in its dedication to product quality. Many employees have been with the company for decades, reflecting a culture built on pride, expertise, and continuity.
Today, Acorn continues to produce iron hardware that honors traditional design while meeting the needs of modern homes—driven by the same commitment to excellence that has defined the brand for over 85 years.
